Bretislav Pojar: The Master of Puppet Animation; Screentalk + Selection of Animation

Czech director and animator Bretislav Pojar will introduce a selection of his award winning animated films and after the screening will discuss his unique vision and various animation styles with writer and animation specialist Clare Kitson, former commissioning editor of animation for Channel 4. Pojar, a close colleague of acclaimed animator Jiri Trnka, is considered a master of puppet animation, famed for using allegory and for his ability to imbue his many characters with a level of dramatic expression that is magical to behold.

The screening includes: One Glass Too Many (awards: Cannes, Edinburgh, Oberhausen Film Festivals, 1954); The Lion and the Song (awards: Annecy, Montevideo Film Festivals, 1960); A Few Words of Introduction (awards: Bergamo, Oberhausen, Locarno, Melbourne Film Festivals, 1962), Romance (awards: Locarno, Melbourne Film Festivals, 1964), Darwin Antidarwin or What the Worm Didn't Suspect, Nightingale / The Romance from the Darkness (awards: Odense, Rio de Janeiro Film Festivals, 1987).
