Art residency at Delfina Foundation: Adam Vackar

10 May 2021 27 Jun 2021

Czech Centre London, the Arts and Theatre Institute and the Kunsthalle Praha are supporting Czech artist Adam Vackar for a 2 week residency at Delfina Foundation.

Adam Vackar (Czech Republic) creates a chronicle of life and technology, history and myth, poetry and politics, deploying disparate images with swampy hybrid creatures. His more recent projects deal with the theme of environmental crisis, toxicity and the vanity of destruction. Through his work he seeks to contribute to shaping the future while also improving his individual actions. In his projects he upcycles materials and seeks to make them with as close to zero emissions as possible.

During his residency at Delfina Foundation, Adam intends to work on an ongoing extensive video project around the dystopian synthesis of human and biological cultures, and human perception of nature. He will collaborate with a biologist at the University of Oxford, filming interviews and field research in the university’s Wytham forest.

Adam holds an MA from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris and BA from the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague, he has participated in le Pavillon, the artist-in-residence program in Palais de Tokyo and Residency Unlimited in New York. He has presented his work in diverse international group and solo shows, including at Centre Pompidou, Centre Pompidou Metz, Palais de Tokyo, Bucharest Triennial, Prague Triennial, City Gallery Prague, National Gallery in Prague, Art Basel – Statements and Film, Cologne Kunstverein, Museum Morsbroich, SMAK and others. Adam is a co-founder of the Prague-based collective Hope Recycling Station, which organises lectures and projects by international artists, curators, writers and philosophers.

Delfina Foundation (DF) is more than London’s largest international residency programme – it is a home where the next generation of contemporary artists, curators and thinkers are supported and nurtured. Based in two newly renovated Edwardian houses near Buckingham Palace, DF is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering artistic talent and facilitating exchange through residencies and public programmes ranging from workshops to exhibitions, both in the UK and with international partners.  DF is the successor to Delfina Studio Trust. From 1988 to 2006, Delfina Studio held an unprecedented record for supporting artists through residencies and exhibitions, including more than a dozen Turner Prizes. DF is proud to build on this history. Our work is followed by key arts professionals and our audiences include arts patrons, curators, major art collectors and the general public. Over the last year, DF’s work has been featured in the Financial Times, the Independent, New York Times, Art Review, Frieze, Art Asia Pacific, Artforum and the The Art Newspaper.

ARTS AND THEATRE INSTITUTE - ARTISTS RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
www.idu.cz
The Arts and Theatre Institute - Artists in Residence Programme offers and coordinates residencies for artists (working in the arts). The programme has run since 2004 and it is designed to promote international collaboration and communication and most of all to provide artists with time and space to engage in creative work and pursue inspiration without interruption. It provides Czech artists with the opportunity to travel abroad, while on the Czech side the Arts Institute in Prague attends to visiting artists accepted into the programme, which includes providing them with local contacts. As an intermediary, the Arts Institute actively seeks partners at home and abroad through long-term contacts, holds competitions for arts residencies abroad, organises workshops for artists from abroad in the Czech Republic, and provides services to the Czech and foreign artists selected to participate in the programme.
